Sodium benzoate (Е211) is used in food industry for production of carbonated and noncarbonated beverages, syrups, salt margarines, sauces, seasonings, jellies, jams, confitures, fillings for pies and confectionary, low-calorie salad dressings, ready-to-eat salads, in storage of vegetables.

Active against yeast, mold and bacteria. Used as edible antimicrobial agent in food products and beverages to increase their shelf life.
